The new owners of the Baxter Country Store on Table Rock Lake in Stone County say they’re more like caretakers of tradition, rather than business people in charge.

Pam Lilley and her husband David recently purchased the legendary store, home to many owners and names over the years – but all with the same intent, a place to gather, gossip and grab some groceries.

Lilley says the store is busy with locals and tourists alike, and features live music on the back porch every Saturday night this summer.

It’s located at the corner of H-Highway and Schodack Road, a place the new owners say is worth looking for.

Regular visitors to the Baxter-Lampe area along Table Rock Lake in Stone County, sometimes refer to their summer get-away as the ‘Baxterhamas’. A central gathering place for most is on the corner of H-Highway and Schodack Road– the Baxter Country Store recently reopened under new ownership.

The Baxter Country Store, at the end of H-Highway in Stone County, is enjoying a re-birth of sorts these days.  The store closed last winter, but Pam Lilley and her husband David say they couldn’t stand to see it that way, so they recently purchased the legendary building, and remodeled it somewhat – while keeping the same hillbilly charm:

Lilley says locals still come in to gossip and catch-up on the days news, while visitors look for directions and groceries on their way to the lake.

Something new they’ve added – live music every night this summer on the back porch.

Baxter Store Helps Keep Lamps Lit In Lampe Mo - 07/06/2012 8:48:50 AM
There's tons of country music history at that old Baxter General Store in Lampe, Missouri. Lampe, Mo is the place where world famous gospel music writer and singer Dottie Rambo chose to live in her log cabin on the lake for many years and wrote many famous gospel songs. Dollie Parton, Dottie Rambo, the Baxter Country Store and Terry Garrison's Hiway 13 Band in Lampe Mo were the magnets that drew Superstar Johnny Cash & June Carter-Cash to lease a house and live there back in 92-94 while he was trying to get his ill fated CASH COUNTRY USA started in Branson. Terry Garrison was Dollie Parton's bus driver for many years. Terry kept Dolly's big tour parked at his Dad's farm for many years while Dolly was out in Hollywood making 9 to 5 movie. It's great to see the Baxter Country Store open once more. Now history can continue while they help keep the lamps lit in Lampe.
